    I put your problem in bold print. This is the current issue going around with some of the DM disks being shipped with newer BB's. Try loading the DM found on the same page as this OS and you can upgrade the OS while you're at it. http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com..._4_2_a-20.html

    Erica, are you sure this is part of that the DM Problem that removes the Browsers? This problem is more more likely having an older version of the DM, not the new one that causes problem with the newer BBs. This is a 64 bit Windows driver problem. DM 4.1 and 4.2 SP1 corrected the Windows XP64 and Vista Driver Problems. I assume this is what you are talkng about. And Yes the solution is the same.

    Im having the same problem as well. I have updated the OS uninstalled, re-installed DM and still nothing. It has the plug in symbol indicating its charging but it wont connect. pls help.

    IT WORKS!

    You have to go to Device Manager on WinXP (right click the 'My Computer' icon -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager).

    Select the USB Device Icons and scan for hardware changes on all of them and then update right click and update driver information on all of them. And then the Blackberry will be recognized by the system.

    I tried that and it didn't work My BB is still not being detected by the DM. The computer sees the BB but via DM.
    If you can't invision it, don't build it.

    Man, this is frustrating! Last night I was able to establish a connection betwwen my 8100 and DM. Today, nothing has worked. So, I went to BlackBerry.com and downloaded their most current version of DM which is different from what is available from T-Mobile. That hasn't improved the situation. My copy of DM is still unable to detect my 8100. My phone is running v4.2.0.42 and I realize that i neesd to be be updated with TMO's most recent v4.2.0.64. However, I obviouslty can't update my phone, and thus hopefully improve it's ability to sync with DM, until I can get DM to detect my phone. I don't know if I did myself any favor by installing a version of DM that is different from what is featured on TMO's website. Further complicating matters is the fact that I am running Windows XP on my MacBook via Parallels. It seems to be working very well, but I'm not sure if I'd know the difference. Perhaps I should return the 8100 to it's factory settings, and then start to slowly update features. Is this possible and might that be of any possible use? I also have PocketMac on my laptop and I am wodering if that could be creating a conflict with the USB ports. I tried to perform a sync with PcketMac this morning and failed at first. However, after I zapped the perameters, everything functioned perfectly. My wife has a new BB 8100 with newer software on the disk. Would there be any benefit to utilizing applications from her CD as opposed to those that I download? I'm SO CONFUSED!!!!!!! Thanks!

    What ever you do don't use the DM from the Disk. It has some issues that removes modules that you need.

    Did you USB drivers get messed up or something?

    If you want another link to download the DM, check here. It is from the Blackberry website - and the newest version is the Desktop Software v4.2 Service Pack 2.

    If you want to find a new OS to download, check here. Even though your computer does not recognize your handheld, I believe you can still upload a new OS using the desktop manager. The instructions can be found here.

    The USB drivers appear to be fine. I have tested them with other devices and run the update/check program which has confirmed that they're functioning properly. No problemo. I have the newest DM installed and followed the steps suggested in the link provided by tecrishon, but without success. I might try installing this software on my wife's MacBook Pro and see if that makes a difference. I wish that PocketMac could handle system updates, because it works so well. Perhaps I should performing some sort of system erase just in case I'm looking at a conflict or corrupt file. Thanks for the feedback folks!

    Did you try the device manager? Go to it euhy click on computer icon select manage. Scroll to where the pci bus or hid usb you believe the pearl to be connected. Right click and select search for new hardware. It should show as RIM device. If no luck there check p your autoplay settings.

    Double Help!!

    I connected for the first time to desktop manager. I went into applications loader and it started to delete stuff. I disconected my pearl form the USB. Then it would not open web, photos, help menu ect. just kept reading Error. I tried to do what was listed here and now it wont turn on and is not recognized by my computer. All i get is a flashing red LED. I tried to take the battery out and still only a flashing red LED. it wont turn on now what? I hate this thing. I have had a palm for years and have never had any problems.

    I have installed, removed, reinstalled, reset, restarted, changed software versions, everything I can think of, and still no go. This shouldn't be so difficult! Is this a Perl issue or are other BB's also similarly challenged? I think I'll try calling the nice folks at TMO tech support and see if they have any suggestions.
