Thumbs down Cable Disconnected During New OS Install! Please Help!

So I decided to upgrade my OS to the new one I saw posted today.

    8100M_PBr4[1].2.0_rel75_PL2.2.0.37_A4.2.0.64

During the normal install process a co-work came in to my office, took a seat, he moved back in his chair and it pulled my usb cable right out of the phone.

Now my phone wont turn on, red light keeps flashing, tried taking out the battery and then plugging back in.

But now DM cant read that there is a device connected!

Anyone know how I can get an OS back on my phone?!

(Tried searching new OS install threads but no luck!)

    Thank you in advance!

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ithink that you should be able to start the dm and then hook up the pearl when it asks for the connection then you could upload the os, this has worked for me but someone else can confirm

I started up the DM first and then connected the BB, but it still wont connect. On all the ports it says no device connected. But thank you, continuing to try different things.

Crazy how dependent I have become on my blackberry!
I dont even know my office phone number to redirect my calls while resolving this!

Im going through the steps of the process now. Strange because DM still says disconnected although its slowing going through the install steps. HOpefully it will come back to life soon.

Re: Cable Disconnected During New OS Install! Please Help!

I don't want to cast a cloud on this, but on every device I have ever had where there is a firmware upgrade [which I think putting on a new OS is] and the process is interfered with, that such fried the chip and the device cannot be repaired.

That even happens with digital cameras and other media. Pull out the chip while the device is copying files on to a chip, the chip is fried and useless. That happened to me once on a 512MB chip [distracted and I pulled out the chip from a reader that was transferring a file. No more 512MB chip].

Anyway, that is why most devices say to make sure the battery is fully charged, do not disconnect cords, etc.

Now with that, this is 2006 and the Pearl is a different device than all those about which I referred to so maybe it can be fixed.

If it's a no go, I suggest instead of asking us, best to call T-Mo. Tell them what happened [see below]. They may say the phone is fried and send you a replacement.

Bonus Tip: Since you are with T-Mo I would NOT tell them that you were trying to put on some other OS. That will void any warranty because T-Mo has NOT issued an upgrade and people in here are erroneously referring to Rogers' and Vodafone OS as upgrades [I think Vodafone's uses Rogers].

T-Mo's terms of service specifically voids the warranty if one tries to use software other than that posted on T-Mo's website.

I'd play dumb and simply say the phone stopped working and on a "wipe" the OS will not reinstall.

Maybe you did not contaminate or fry the chip and all will work out, I'm rootin for ya.

    Well that's good news.

As to my message of doom, I did say that this was 2006 and the Pearl is a different device so it might not be fried. I am happy for you.

Bonus Tip: Take a baseball bat to your colleague's butt.

Oh wait, maybe it was the way you had the thing laid out that caused him to hit the cable. In that case, you have to stay late at the office tonight. Kinda like detention in school.
