    Blackberry pearl t-mobile signal reception

Sitting in a office where I am about 1 office away from a window. Most people who have cellphone or even older blackberries have no reception problems even when they are sitting in my office. My pearl is getting very sporaddic and weak reception, likely either because of t-mobile or pearl itself.

    Any thoughts?

I don't remember but I have to check again tommorow. Just checked coverage map, I should be getting full strength signal in the area.

Its the pearl there have been a few reports of the terrible service/signal strength it has. It might also have a small factor with Tmo but compared to a nokia my boss had right next to me I had one bar and he had full bars! I guess they forgot about that little thing called being able to get reception.

I vote pearl. Reason being, I have an 8700 and an 8100, and the 8100 will lose reception before and more often than the 87.

Oh great! I just got a phone with bad signal? That was the main reason of me getting a new phone. Can they fix that with a patch or is it just the phone itself bad reception?

My guess is it's actually the phone itself...I am guessing that the larger size of the 8700 allows it to get a better signal.

You could try taking some aluminum foil and sticking it behind ur battery.

Somehow, I don't know the exact link or whatnot, but it either absorbs the signal or reflects it back towards the device so that it picks up.

I have it like that on the 8700, and it gets a little better signal at the house. I used to not get any.

Well, I don't think its ALL the phone fault. T-Mobile does not exactly have a great reputation for having the best reception.
    Love my first BlackBerry (Pearl)!

I am not saying it is all the phones fault. I stated that because I have an 8700 and an 8100, and when I am at the house, if I put them side by side, the 8100 will lose signal quicker and more often than the 8700 will.

my 8100 seems to be as good as the 7100 and the 7105's our company is currently using.

I did wipe the phone today to try and get rid of one annoying little issue. If it comes back, I will post it.

Re: Blackberry pearl t-mobile signal reception

As a long time cell phone user, but a brand new Blackberry user, i have to say that with all the bugs and quirks of the 8100, it is a remarkable device. The RF reception that this thread is about, I can only say that it is absolutely remarkable for me in a big city/urban environment. No phone i've ever used, and most of them are those "imported from overseas" type of phones, have been anywhere as good as this. The reception is more like double that of my recent phones: the I-Mate SP5, and previous to that, a Sony Ericsson. This is a complete surprise to me: i purchased this phone based on the form factor, the emailing capabilities (push), the web abilities, the quad band, and importantly, the novel-but-tried-out-for-2-years keyboard that is brilliant in my book.

there are a number of bugs that i've discovered, which many others have as well: i.e. the pearl/track ball turning off the ringing when you're trying to take it out of your pocket (how ludicrously annoying!), gmail not opening up properly...

overall, i find this 8100 to be remarkably excellent. and, vis-a-vis this thread, the RF reception is beyond good - it is the best i've ever used (please do bear in mind that i'm only talking my own experience in a heavily urban environment).

    Best to all!
