When I hook up the BB via USB cable, I do see a Removable Drive, even though there is nothing in the memory slot. [If I click on it, I get a "Please insert..." dialogue]

I haven't even touched the two CDs that came with the Berry; I downloaded and installed the latest RIM package, and that is that.

    Hey,

Not sure if you got it fixed or not, but I thought your problem was along the lines of a cpu problem.

This happens with memory sticks from time-to-time. The "memory stick/flash drive" (bb in ur case) has the same "disk drive" as another drive on your cpu (ie. C:/, D:/).

Here's a link for how to fix that..... let me know if it helps, or if you need help!

Your flash stick may not appear because it's a duplicate under another drive.

try following those instructions from that external site.

    Niran,

I am assuming you are still having issues. Did you indeed check your settings as jay suggested? Rim indicates the following issues cause this problem.

    1. Mass Storage Mode is not enabled
    2. Desktop Manager / Media Manager is open
    3. Media Card has not been formated by the BB device (please confirm)
    4. Conflicting drive mapping

For # 4 please review the following:

Note: To complete this resolution, the BlackBerry smartphone user must have administrator rights on the computer.
    1. Open the Computer Management console on the computer by navigating to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
    2. If another resource is mapped to the same drive letter as the media card (such as a network drive), change the drive mapping for the removable media. To perform this, complete the following steps:
      1. Right-click on the removable media item and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
      2. Select the current drive letter, and change it to an unused letter.

If none of these apply, probably time to try the following to rule out the desktop and the sd card as the issue.

    1. Connect the BB to a different machine.
    2. Try a different sd card

    dear GaryF:

i have connected it to another machine as well, but still no result. i tried to check disk management utilities as well but there is not indication that mass storage device is attached even though i have enabled the mass storage turn on.

    Your issues:
    1. Mass Storage Mode is not enabled
    2. Desktop Manager / Media Manager is open
    3. Media Card has not been formated by the BB device (please confirm)
    4. Conflicting drive mapping

    Answers:
    1. Mass Storage Turned On
    2. Desktop Manager is not Open
    3. Have formatted the Media Card.
    4. Checked Drive Mapping.

By the way, i have almost 2 GB of content in my Media Card which i copied using a Card Reader. I dont understand why card reader can detect my media card (Kingston Micro SD 2 GB) but not any PC.

    DO let me know.

    thanks

You may want to go to blackberry.com and search for knowledgebase article KB11883. It may help you out.

    Niran,

Did you format the sd card with your PC or your phone?

You post that you added media to the card using your card reader. Can you access this media in the BB without issues?

Niran, Tell me something here, when you plug your media card into your card reader, do you see the top level folder called Blackberry. If not follow the following steps.

    1. While still connected to all your files to a temporary folder.
    2. Remove the Media Card from you card reader and install it in the BB.
    3. On the BB, open Options/Media Card
    4. Open the Menu and Select Format
    5. Select Yes in response to the Message box question
    6. When format complete, Verify settings
      • Media Card Support - ON
      • Mass Storage Mode Support - ON
      • Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode when Connected - Yes.
    7. Connect BB to PC and See if it's recognized
    8. Move Files from Temp Folder to the Appropriate folders under Blackberry.

Niran, please let me know if you reach a solution for this. I am having the same problem with my memory card. It just doesn't instantiate as a removable drive whenever I plug the BlackBerry into my PC. I've got all the applicable options enabled.

Question Info on problem but no fix

    Hi

I have read elsewhere that it is t-mobile 8100 phones that are blocked from allowing SD cards to show up at all... I have all the same issues.

    Is your phone t-mobile?

    Jools
