    Blackberry Pearl defect?

My friend bought his Pearl used off of craigslist and it had a broken speaker....so he had to use speakerphone all the time. He could never have a personal level call.

Few weeks ago, my earpiece went out as well. So now I am forced to use speakerphone on lowest setting, to try and even have a personal call.

Oh, my other friend who has a Pearl has the same exact issue.

Are they doing a recall or what, because this is some bs

Can you link me to a how to fix yourself kind of thing?

If you can find a replacment speaker you can always take you pearl apart and replace it.

Try cnn.cn they should have it for cheap.

The speaker that seems 2 break for me is the speaker phone, they probably just stopped working from repeated shock.

i think im about to come up on my tmobile 1yr contract thingy, so maybe they will replace it for free if i renew another years worth of service with them. if they do that, then i can get insurance.

    Re: Blackberry Pearl defect?

There have been issues with some Pearls regarding the speaker. Its usually not the speaker, however. It has been the headphone jack. The jack malfunctions and makes the phone think there is always an earpiece plugged in, so the only way to hear a call is with a headset or on speakerphone.

    Re: Blackberry Pearl defect?

I don't think it is an issue with the speaker per say. It seems like this has happened to a few people and i have fixed it with the wired earpiece. Plug it in, pull the battery, power up and unplug, or some semblance of this process. Seems to have fixed most of the devices i have worked on.

    Re: Blackberry Pearl defect?

thanks for that How To advise. I'll try to get it to work....but come on guys, we shouldn't have to be fixing these.

Blackberry has had enough complaints about this problem I'm sure, so how could they not be forced to have a recall? How could we make that happen? I know it's a serious issue for a company to have to recall something, but alot of there Pearls have the issue.

    Re: Blackberry Pearl defect?

Recalls are reserved for MAJOR defects. The only way this would ever happen is when more than 75% or the effected devices are having the same issue. It isn't cost effective to do a recall. It's better for the company to just fix the speakers as they come in.

Unfortunately you bought your phone off of craigslist and that is the problem with that is you don't get a warranty. You best bet is to search for a replacement part. Sorry man I know it sucks but sometimes you gotta roll with the punches.
