I saw in the google map menu that it has an option to "show traffic". I feel that will be helpful, but I havent had a chance to use it yet.

I agree, waste of space. Unless you have a bluetooth GPS sitting around, which I unfortuately, do not...

Is there a secret to using BB Maps. I like the fact that it is linked to my address book, but I can't get consistency. Anybody know why?

No. The phone itself needs the GPS unit to be able to display its location in real time. Software cannot remedy that.

The 8100 does not have a GPS unit. So, no map software can give it real-time capabilities. For that you need a bluetooth GPS unit.

    Sorry!

Does the google maps take up a lot of room on the Pearl? I deleted BB maps - is there a way to reinstall it if I don't like google maps? Thanks again

I have the same question. Are the two programs comparable in size? I'm waiting for my micro sd card to come in the mail so I'm still only working with the space on the actual device. Could I run both or if I do scrap BB maps can I easily get them back? Thanks.

Re: blackberry maps & google maps

I have a BB 8820 and it came with Blackberry Maps. i also downloaded Google maps so I have the choice. I don't understand, however, why it has to use a data connection (which becomes costly) each time you use the GPS for trips. I had a TomTom GPS that never connected to anything and the maps were all stored on it's memory card which seems a much more cost effective solution. Can somebody explain to me if there is a gps that I can download onto my BB that doesn't need to connect via data methods (GPRS, bluetooth, etc.) in order to function correctly?
    Thanks.

Sorry but the way that the blackbeerry uses GPS is with stream all the map data down to you. There is now way that I know of to use maps from the microSD card.
