    best software for IM?

I'd like to be able to sign into my AIM and Gmail IM accounts. Is there an app out there that you guys recommend?

I checked out the messenger apps that came pre-installed on my Pearl, but those don't seem to work for AIM, Gmail, etc...

    thanks.

For AIM there is a free program called Ramble. Its alright but it drops the connection frequently for me. You can give that a try or buy Yak-on which is approx. $20 but I find it helpful. Its for AIM, MSN, and ICQ. There are a few others for AIM but I can't remember the names. For Google Talk, go to www.blackberry.com/googletalk
    or
    www.google.com/talk/otherclients.html

    Hi,

I've got a pearl too (on T-Mobile in UK). Does anyone know if these IM programs like google / AOL cost anything to send messages or are they free like my emails?

Im a bit of a newbie so sorry if this has been asked before or is a dumb question!

    Cheers

There's one called jivetalk that supports aim, google talk, icq, yahoo messenger, and something else. It is free, my friend tim has it on his pearl, but I can't find an ota.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~google has its own free program wich is great, yahoo has a free one as well and you'll find that bb developers are charging excessive fees for there programs and like to run everything through their servers. So expect slow, expensive, intrusive and high battery drain programs.

JiveTalk is awesome. Looks great, doesn't lose connection, connects to all the major IM programs. Highly recommend it. As referenced above go to their website, we're not supposed to post ota links since the beta version is closed but if you email them a request to test it out they get right back to you.
