~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~The 8300 hasn't been officially released by any carrier so it can't actually be purchased anywhere.

If your timeframe is today and you aren't considering any other Blackberry models, the the decision is easy...change your timeframe to wait till the 8300 comes out. :-)

Depends on what you want to have in your device... if it is gonna be only gadget which you are going to use for both business and fun then probably you need something more powerful than BB... like Treo or Qtec
I have Palm LD with 8Gb of storage and GPS for serious tasks like office and movies but really enjoy BB as a light cute little pocket sister of Palm... As I can see RIM is very stable platform but not flexible enough for me though.. In 83xx you will not find anything revolutionally new.. just cosmetic changes and little software improvement... Go ahead and take piece of paper, make a chart with your needs and specs of couple smartphones.. it will help you to be more objective..
Personally I wouldn't get PPC Palm and RIM rulez!

    Re: BB vs Pocket pc

first hand experience, I just came off of a 8125 pocket pc from cingular. [HTC Wizard] It is a great phone, has a lot of cool features but has its bugs also [as do BBs].

I just got a pearl earlier this week and love it also.

Out of the box with the 8125 ppc that i like better then the BB is the fact that you can run Office documents [excel, word etc.] off of the device.

with the BB you have to buy the extra software [e-office]

    Both have GPS compatibility
    Both have Speakerphone

8125 had touch screen, versus the pearl which has track ball.

That is the main reason why i switched....it is very difficult to use the touch screen while driving. I could use the Qwerty keyboard that slides out to type numbers...but that is also difficult. The pearl fixed that issue for me.

I also switched for a few other reasons
I wanted to try something new
BBP has a significant weight and size difference
On the overall usage of the 8125PPC i only texted, surfed wweb, and maps...
I really didn't use the office software enough to justify to get another PPC.
The e-mail configs are a lot different also and easier with the BBP thats for sure

let me know if there are questions/comments

    Re: BB vs Pocket pc

As a data specialist in my company, I play with all the toys you can imagine and only have one thing to say, stay away from WM5 if you're looking for something that won't crash and have good sound quality if you're an heavy phone user.

I tried PPC lots of time and as soon as I wanted to do multitasking the thing crashed on me so this is the main reason I love BBs

(Consider the next thing I'm saying here, I have a 7130e)

No camera: Do you really need a 1.3 MP on a phone, anyway I'm a business user not looking for a toy.

No expandable memory: I'm a heavy user and never run out of memory so why I would need anything else

No editing on Office document: I have something else for that, I forgot the name, ........ AHHH a laptop!

    My 2 cents

UNLESS it is for a BETA OS, it's at your own risk and I won't support it

I agree with sn1p3r.. camera is almost useless.. memory card probably not so useless but definitely it is enough memory for apps even w/o expansion card..
I have Pearl and 7105t and (be honest) if 7105t had full BT capabilities I would keep it and sell Pearl... this is what I do not like in RIM to cut BT to headset only...
And that is true - stay away from WM...
