    Question BB OS program? alx file? HELP

    Advertisement

    Hello. I'm a new blackberry user and I found a thread about unlocking hidden themes, etc. but it tells me to look for an .alx file to edit. It SEEMS like it is telling me to look for this file on my computer??? But if that is the case I don't have any such files on my PC. So then I found a comment along the lines of "You do have a BB OS program right?" so that makes me wonder what the heck that is and how I get it!! Or am I supposed to be looking for this file on my blackberry?

    I'd love some help on how to go about unlocking themes for someone that has never touched a blackberry until yesterday! Or a link to info that's already out there. (I've done a lot of reading and searching but apparently am not searching with the right words)

    Thanks!

    there you go

    I just did it the other day. Pretty cool to see other themes. I still like my TMO Zen theme. Wish I could just alter it with theme builder.

    red...that article is so not in "user friendly english" ! LOL! If someone can do screen shots step by step, that might make it easier.

    Re: BB OS program? alx file? HELP

    basically all you do is add your vendor number to where ever it says 8100.

    All the stuff in red. But if you want TMO theme then open the .axl with notepad or wordpad. and edit this.

    So under TMO filesets

    <!-- T-Mobile filesets -->

    <fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Reduced" Java="1.0" _vendorID="100">
    <files>
    net_rim_theme_100_240x260.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>

    so all you do, is change that BLUE 100 to 102, I think that is Cingulars vendor ID.

    remember to just make a copy of the original just incase you screw something up.
    Then with desktop manager load the edited axl file with app loader.

    Re: BB OS program? alx file? HELP

    I have the same problem that gritstinct has above, namely that when I open the C:\Program Files|Research In Motion folder - there is no Shared folder and no .alx file there to open or edit...... Sort of makes using the link to the "how to edit the .alx file" premature. One must have an .alx file first before one can edit it.....

    You need to have Desktop Manager AND your Pearl's ROM (OS) loaded on your computer. You can download the phone ROM from blackberry.net or your provider's website. Once this is installed you'll find the *.alx files in the shared location.

    Re: BB OS program? alx file? HELP

    have you installed the OS to your PC? and are you using the correct path?

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\"your os"

    a lot of people don't go to common files.
