BB Ball broken- How can I access my texts?

I broke the ball inside of my phone and I can only seem to access #'s, as the ball is the only way I know how to enter texts, phone book, etc.

Does any one have an alternate way to access my info without using the ball? TIA!

Well, the entire silver thing, ball & plastic thing all fell off (sorry I am not technology oriented at all and dont know proper terms)....all that is left on there (the pieces wont go back in) is a big whole with the inside parts showing.

Or you could order one off of ebay...I've heard that shipping from cnn.cn is slow since it comes from china. I ordered a replacement for my 8130 from ebay for about 12 bucks with shipping. I ordered it on a Friday and got it following Tuesday, just 3 business days...I thought that was pretty good.

Sorry, but I don't know of anyway to navigate the device without the trackball. Your SMS messages are not stored on your memory card either....the good news is they should still be on the device once you get it fixed. You can remove the SIM card and use it in a different phone in the meantime....

Now if you are in critical need of these messages right away - you can run a back up file with desktop manager and access them with a 3rd party application ($$).

    Good Luck!

If you still have all your parts and none of them are completely damaged, you could try this link:

    http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com..._pictures.html

...it shows how to take apart and re-assemble. It does take patience. Don't know if you are willing to take this route. If the device is still under warranty, or you have insurance, I would do that...if not, you have nothing to lose. I have taken mine apart a cleaned before...no big deal.

Sometimes when the device is dropped, the trackball just pops out...no harm done. This is what I am hoping is wrong w/yours.

    Just a suggestion...Good Luck.

    Track ball re-assembly...

Ok...my Pearl track-ball needed a little cleaning.(Stained form work...) Here are some more detailed pics taken w/my Canon:

Just take a deep breath and be patient...

Here are the pieces you should have.

    IMG_0804.JPG
You will notice 2 white plastic tabs on the left & right of ball assembly, keep assembly oriented that way when you insert. It should snap in.

    IMG_0805.JPG
On the ring, there are 3 sets of prongs. The middle prong inserts facing down *slot in housing. (You will see *3 small black rectangular slots in the device housing, one left/right & bottom.)

    IMG_0807.JPG
Gently push ring down till you hear it snap in.

    IMG_0808.JPG
Ring should be flush on all sides, if not, gently press down till you here it snap.

All done! You should be able to scroll w/your ball again. any problems or questions, PM me...I will talk you through. (Just be patient...I may not reply right away...I work 3rds & have an 19month daughter.)

There is a way to navigate w/o the ball. It will help more if you tell me what Theme you are running as a few of them operate differently.

There are ways to access just about everything without the trackball. I had to learn cause my trackball isn't working right now.

To access phone book...Just push any number that corresponds to the first letter of person's name. Your phone will show you a list of all people in your address book that start with that letter.

To access texts and emails...a little trickier...Pick any persons name using above method, push "menu" button after highlighting any name, choose SMS text option, push the "back" button, choose to discard current message....Voila. You're back at your text/email menu. As you read your texts, delete them afterwards and you'll be able to get to you next one. Rinse and repeat to read all your texts.
