    Dear All,

    I'm new in this community.

    My BB Pearl shows the message "Please install a valid smart authenticator. Please contact your system administrator for assistance." I can't do anything, because this popup doesn't go away.

    Can anyone please tell me, how to solve this problem?

    Hello Tom. Welcome to the Stacks. Are you on a BES? If so, you probably need to contact your IT department.

    At the end I want to use it with a BES. But first I only want to do phone calls.

    My IT department can't help me.

    I already installed a new firmware, but the message comes again.

    Never seen that one, Is this a new or used Pearl?

    I bought it in Hongkong while my business trip (ups...).

    The IT-department does not know the Pearl. We are working with the old ones (7290). So they are also not familiar with smart card authentication.

    I'm thinking it was used with a smart card reader. Check out the RIM info on that here, BlackBerry Smart Card Reader.

    Or how to reset the BB to the factory settings?

    Just a few more words:

    after buying i could start the phone normally. then i wanted to activate to BES. after activating the above message appeared.

    Talk to your BB Admins. Make sure they are OK with this. Have them send a Blank IT policy and imediately remove you from your BES. Then the procedure below will wipe your BB.

    1. Start by Downloading and installing JL_Cmder, see that link for instructions.
    2. Download and execute on your PC the latest software for your BB. See this thread for links to the sofware download site for your carrier, Blackberry OS Software links (by carrier).
    3. Connect you BB to your PC
    4. Open JL_Cmder,
    5. Select the Wipe Option (5)
    6. Follow the instructions in this thread very carefully, How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't recognize The Device Is Connected
      • Be sure to follow everything carefully, especially the items in Red


    Then Try to do the Enterprise Activation again.

    I won't guarantee this will work, but it's the only thing I can think of that might. Heck, even just sending a different IT policy might correct it. Who Knows.

    They shouldn't have to if you're not connected to your company's BES.

    It did everything, Rcbjr suggested (wiping with JL_Cmder and reinstalling firmware like the above instruction).

    But the message appears again!

    Any suggestion?

    Pls help !!
