I'm using my friends 8130 battery in my 8100. every thing seems to work alright. Is this safe? and if so would it be safe to upgrade to the extended life battery made for the 8130 (the one that doesnt increase the thickness om my 8100)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Should be fine.

For the first charge or two, keep an eye on it and watch for anything that looks out of the ordinary...

The earliest sign of a battery problem is usually excessive heat - it's normal for batteries to get warm, but if it starts to get excessively hot or (worse-case scenario) you see/smell melting/burning/smoke, disconnect it immediately and cautiously...

After about two charges with no signs of trouble, I'd feel comfortable using it.

Just keep in mind that although a battery may give longer usuage times with a newer model, it may not do the same because newer devices will often have improved power management.
