    Battery Problem

My battery is only a few months old and seems to be getting worse and worse... The charge only last 24 hours when it used to last a couple of days. my usage has not changed but my battery is killing me.

I charge the battery when I get to the low battery indicator and do a full charge...

are these batteries crap or am I doing something wrong?

Battery life really depends on the usage and how often you charge. It is better to let the battery get low before recharging...this will extend it's life.

Here is a link w/ other tips:

OK OK... reading that link lead me to something....

I rely on by calendar religiously and sync between my office and home computers several times a day...

When I sync my phone is pulling a charge off the computer weather I want it too or not.

That, I believe is killing my batteries.

How do I sync without charging?

You might try sync via BlueTooth.

Actually newer blackberries use a lithium ion battery. They do not need to be depleted before charging like older models to extend their life. In fact they like being "topped off".

Deep discharges can in fact damage a lithium ion battery.

That's what I thought till I read this:

"A stand-alone Li-ion cell must never be discharged below a certain voltage to avoid irreversible damage. Therefore all Li-ion battery systems are equipped with a circuit that shuts down the system when the battery is discharged below the predefined threshold.[12] It should thus be impossible to "deep discharge" the battery in a properly designed system during normal use. This is also one of the reasons Li-ion cells are rarely sold as such to consumers, but only as finished batteries designed to fit a particular system.
When the voltage monitoring circuit is built inside the battery (a so-called "smart" battery) rather than the equipment, it continuously draws a small current from the battery even when the battery is not in use; furthermore, the battery must not be stored fully discharged for prolonged periods of time, to avoid damage due to deep discharge."

Why does my battery only last 4 months or so... It has been like this on all my pearls.

Is it because I am not actually topping it off? I am just letting it charge while I sync.

That could be. One thing that is said to lengthen the life of Lithium-ion batteries is to keep them charging well after it says that it is fully charged.

You know my buddy had issues with his battery. I asked him if he had crap running in the background. He sure did. Keep an eye on your apps that are running. If you don't fully exit out they will just run in the background taking up memory and battery life.

Right on RedDog. I had that issue for a while before I figured out how to see items running in the background. I don't have my Berry in front of me, but to see what you've got running, click the ....(BB Button) and select switch applications (or something like that) and it shows all the apps running. Of course there are some that are always open, but at least you can close the ones you're not using.

It's actually alt + escape key to see what is running.

Its actually either way. Depending on what you prefer. Ilike using my thumb only therefore the "switch applications" method works best for me.
