~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ Oh and when I was using my 7100 series prior to the Pearl, letting the battery drain has never hurt it, but it does hurt the Pearl. My first Pearl freaked out after I let the battery die and I had to replace it.

OK...the standby mode thing rocks! From 7 am to now 11:37 pm (over 16 hours) and over 40% battery left.

I too am very new to the BB and also came from WM5 OS phones. I think that the BB is much more stable and has many great functions.

I have a question some what along the same lines. I know w/ the WM5 os you could pull up a task manager to see running processes as well as kill them from there if need be. I was just wondering is this is a option with the BB?

Hold down the "alt" key (lower left corner) & press the "back" key (to the right of the Pearl): this is like using the alt+tab combo on a pc. Select the app you want to close, then press the menu key (to the left of the Pearl) & choose "close." some apps are always on (home screen, phone, call log, etc.).

I've always used the standby mode. The phone still vibrates too which is handy. Also better than a key lock as you cant dial 999/911 when the phones in standby. The only slight niggle with it I have is when I'm listening to music, the standby button is the play/pause shortcut for the media player, so when I get to work, pull out the headphones and press standby my music fires up, so have to remember to close the media player before I put it into stand by.

If its in standby, just check the LED. If it flashes red, you have a email/message/missed call. I have mine to flash green when all is normal so I can check it isn't turned off quickly!

also, using standby mode is a great tip that i don't think a lot of users take advantage of enough.
This is THE lowdown on lithium-ion batteries, Not for the faint hearted !!

Some custom themes are battery hogs as I discovered today! Stick to the RIM themes if you want to increase battery life....

Maybe this needs to be in a separate thread, but I've tried to so the 'alt' plus 'back' key to bring up running programs, and it works. However, I can't use the menu button to bring up a menu on them. I don't think it will work on normal BB tasks (phone, etc), but it won't work for BB Messenger or BrickBreaker either...

    Any help?
