Don't know if anyone else has had this prob saI could not find any threads on it. For some reason my pearl is not opening attachments anymore. The only thing I recently changed is finally upgraded to ATT newest software 4.2.1.96 about a week ago.
    Any ideas?

By the way so far .docx apparently is the only one that I am having issues with it just opened an old pic I found fine.

    Uh...
You should have upped your OS to 4.2.1.107 or higher... IMHO, OFC

.docx is new Office 2007 file format, based on XML. I have not yet received any, so I don't know does 4.2.1.107 (which I use) supports opening that.

Although attachment viewing requires the Attachment Sevice be installed on the BlackBerry, it is server based so the host server needs the appropriate software to convert it to something the BlackBerry can display.

BES requires the latest service pack for .DOCX support. As there hasn't been an upgrade of BIS for a while, I imagine it's not supported there yet either. If I get a chance, I'll test it on AT&T's BIS and post if it IS supported.

    UPDATE:
BES version 4.1 Service Pack 4 or later is required to view .docx and .xmlx files.. I was able to open both .docx and .xlsx files sent to my BES email address.

I'm with AT&T which I believe is running BIS 2.2 (and the latest version as far as I know), and was unable to open the attachments with either my blackberry.net, yahoo.com, or gmail.com email addresses.

I would hope the next release of BIS will come out soon - possibly with the release of the 8900/9000 around May/June with support for these formats??? Just guessing!

I would also guess that all Hosted BES services are up to date and support the format.

I actually just tried sending some notes that I had typed up to my pearl. The first time was in .DOCX...which didn't work. I then sent it in .DOC which worked fine.

In terms of viewing them on your BlackBerry, yes. But Google "Free .docx to .doc converter" if you need to view them off line.
