    AT&T/CINGULAR SMS Issue

    So I just started my new account with AT&T on my 8100c and I have not been able to receive SMS messages from carriers other than AT&T users. I've talked to AT&T tech and they have no idea. Anyone have this problem and know a fix?

    I assume you have tried all the basics...battery pull...resend service books...register HRT...all else works fine? Other option mught be an OS re-install. Otherwise I would try CS again as it seems it is a system issue.

    Yep tried everything. I am able to receive SMS from AT&T users only. The techy lady sent me a test SMS from their network, which I received. One from her own AT&T phone, which I received. Then one from a Sprint phone (not sure shy she had that on her) and I never got it.

    Yeah I can send and they receive them but when they reply, nothing comes back. She said she has heard of this happening before but doesn't know how to help me. She's gonna have a higher level tech call me back tomorrow. Sucks.

    Yeah - I am going to guess somthing is wrong in either the system or your account settings..does ATT have a SMS plan that is "in network" only? perhaps they have you set up wrong?

    I've noticed problems where SMS messages are mysteriously deleted by a tower, or something, somewhere. Because when me and my girlfriend are texting eachother, every once in a while something won't go through ("sends" from device fine, but they don't receive it). This is going from T-Mobile to AT&T and vice versa. I have no clue what causes it, but with time it starts working again. It's almost as if the messages are put into a queue, and timeout since they are never forwarded. Who knows, but I haven't experienced it lately.

    I had a similar problem a while back. Goto Options>SMS Text and set the Data Coding to 7 bit.

    No, AT&T only has standard SMS like everyone else. But I've heard of this problem, too, just can't remember what the fix wound up being. IIRC it was something internal with the carrier, not the phone.

    I didn't mean "How do You know" like who are you to tell me what to do. I just meant, how do you know if the message center number is the correct one?? Ha ha ha, funny.
