Anyone remove the spongey thing on battery cover?

I cant help but keep noticing how my fingers rub against the edges of the battery cover. Upon inspection it seems that the spongey sticker pushes against the battery too much. Just wondering if anyone has removed it with any luck.

yeah, i removed it, but for the opposite reason. when i typed, the battery door would flex inward. the movement drove me crazy. i removed the spongy thing, replacing it with three strips of duct tape. this stopped the flex and made my pearl much more solid feeling

I removed it long ago. It was there to act as a cushion/filler between the cover and the hollow space to the battery.

But like you, I noticed that the foam actually caused the edges of the cover to stick out and the middle was bowed that I could see.

On taking out the foam, the cover edges are flush with the case. Don't see that the cover is any weaker than it was with the foam.

But since my phone is in a super protective enclosure [see pic below] , the cover's flimsiness is not an issue.

Yeah, that pic cracks me up. I got it from some cell phone museum site.

It supposedly is 1982, so I suspect that the guy in the pic is RIP by now.

I did get one of those phones on eBay, as a collectors item.

That was the project lead on motorola's first Mobile Phone project after the Bag phones. He was on William Shatner's special on Star Trek technology and how it changed the world.

I am gravely concerned that you know this.

    Is that guy named Cooper?

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~I just noticed that the back of my BB battery cover wasn't flush with the surface after reading this thread, I don't think I'm going to remove that spongy thingy though because its never been a problem

At least now I know why my cover never sat flush. I just removed the spongy square after reading this thread, and then put my Seidio case back on

so about these strips of duct tape...

is this for a specific purpose? or after removing the square spongy thing, is it ok just to put the battery cover back on?
