I don't think it can be done. I have tried and had the same results.

No device prior to the 8100 supports animated images as background so the input from the 8100 users who have tired will be beneficial to us all future device owners.

I think it takes programming of the OS to tell it to play animations on the "desktop."

In a way, it's a form of a screensaver. To my knowledge, no one has come out with an applet to run animated gifs on our Pearl desktops.

On one of my PDA's that ran Windows Pocket PC had a third party application that set cool animations to run on the desktop.

Maybe someday we will see something similar for the Pearl.

I can watch the animated gif on my 8700 in pictures but just still photo when I set them as home screen .to bad they would make good screen savers .but I'm sure battery would be used up quick.

As srl said none up to now will do it as the home screen image, and it has been tried. And Sanfrancisco just confirmed that the pearl doesn't either.

Wish it worked. My gf's Sony w600 has animated backgrounds installed from the factory. Little things like this will lend to the consumer direction that rim is trying to go.

Older devices allowed you to set wallpaper as "Stand By" screen but that went away... Not available on 8703e. GIF's were animated on Stand By screen. But I think the Animation would only cycle twice, as I recall.

I have a slightly different question on animated GIF's.

Why is it, if I send an Animated Gif file to myself as an attatchment, it saves as a still image?

I have to put the GIF on a web site, then browse to it from the BB and save from there. That appears to be the only way to get it to be Animated under Pictures. I carry slide shows of my kids with me everywhere I go, as animated Gif's.

    Thank you...
