Question Address Book Default Business Number

I noticed that if I add someone's number to my address book using my BB, it automatically puts the number under "work" as opposed to "mobile". I know it's not a big deal, but it's rather a nuisance and I could imagine it becoming a problem in the near future. Is there any way to set the default number save to mobile? Because that would be the most used category for numbers these days.

.....Also is there a way to identify a number as being the primary number wether it is the home, cell or work?

Actually it IS a major problem when you import 30 people with 3 numbers each and EVERY person now has 3 work numbers and no home numbers or cell numbers! IT IS A PAIN....

Just a quick update that I forgot to mention. I try to manage my numbers through Outlook whenever I can because that's the most feasible method to fix this problem I guess... well, the quickest way to edit all your numbers is through Outlook sadly. But still waiting and hoping someone finds a solution for this.

While I do agree that it's a mild annoyance, I certainly don't consider it a problem. Blackberries are, first and foremost, business devices, and it's only natural for RIM to design the software with the assumption that business contacts are going to be the majority of entries. I can also say that if I was on the coding team, I'd really be miffed if I had to re-write an entire sub-routine just for something small like this.

thats not to say there isnt a way to affect which number is set as the primary or default number. Most phones have that ability i doubt rim would leave us without.

About the "primary" number. I believe the BB will remember the last phone number used for a given contact, and display that as the default for the next time you attempt to call that contact.

Re: Address Book Default Business Number

    a) great forum. really helped me make my BB decision

    b) i've had my pearl for 8 hours. i love it. so glad i ignored the sureType complaints... i think it is awesome.

    c) unfortunately i have the same gripe as the original poster. this is a huge pain in the neck. most numbers i get from people are cell numbers not work numbers. hoping to bump this thread to see if anyone has a solution. i can not believe that my free LG phone handled adding contacts more intuitively than this thing.

c1) Say you have a ton of contact info for Ron James. He calls you from a new phone number. you want to associate that number with him. Do you have to go to his contact listing first to add it? I would prefer to select the number and simply select an option like "add to existing contact"... is there a bb pearl equivalent?

it seems to me, Add to address book puts it in an entirely new entry.

    thanks for your help

when you call him or he calls you you can take that number and "copy" it by highlighting it in your call log and pressing the berry button. then just "paste" to the appropraite section of the address book. someone double check that i dont have my pearl but im pretty sure thats how its done

It Does, it's just a very large PDF file on the CD that came with it. You can also download a users manual from this link, All RIM BlackBerry manuals.

    hope this helps
