Does anyone know if you can use the BB 8700 (cingular) on the Sprint network?

We the same dilemma at our company, everyone gripes about how big the 6500, 7500, & 7200 series models we have are and wanted a more "cell phone" looking BB so we got a bunch of 7100ts and then 99% of our users ended up hating the suretype keyboards (lol I learned something already! I've been calling those multi-tap keyboards) and gave them back to us. I even have a bunch of RIM 950's still lingering among our users because they're so picky about size and the keypads.

The 8700c is a GSM phone and Sprint is a CDMA network so the answer is No.

    Re: 8700 vs. 8100

You folks know how many lawyers are out there? I haven't seen too many that don't have BB's anymore.

My BB herd is about 70% lawyers, 30% the Admin staff that supports them. Cameras in BB's are a bad thing for them - banned in court as StaceyRVC said.

Which is a good thing for me actually, since I get to say No when they start asking for them.

Right now I only really get to say NO is when the associates ask for 8700's - only partners get them here.

Myself I have no interest in it. I don't want the added features, and I hate the non QWERTY keypad. I also have a strong suspicion the battery live will be horrible, possibly as bad as a Nextel 7520.

What I hope, but don't hold much hope for, is that RIM finally put the pipe down and puts a USB 2.0 port on this and any future models. 1.1 is unacceptable when synching large amounts of data, and if the functionality to transfer data to the MiniSD card is included, it's going to be pathetically slow if it's just 1.1.

Good points on the USB! I truly hope they do the same. I also don't currently transfer much data via bluetooth, so I'm curious how dreadfully slow that may be.
I will say this, RIM's target market is not business professionals. It's the 18-35 age range, pre-professional or professionals in the small to medium sized companies, and those who are potentially BIS customers. Add in the Sidekick users and Treo users, and this pretty much targets them. If this device does what the Treo does well as far as multimedia, while still offering great push email, which the Treo DOES NOT, this will prove to be the greatest selling device in RIM's history IMHO ( until it comes out in QWERTY w/ wifi )
If it has frequest crashes, or sacrifices the great push email on a stable device which is RIM's claim to fame, it will set them back months. Just my $.02.
