8100 - Why so slow sometimes?

So I've had my Pearl for about a week. It's the first Blackberry I have owned. I've been pretty pleased so far.

But sometimes this thing makes me wait for unreasonable amounts of time. It happened a lot at first, so I disabled Content Compression in the security options, thinking that constant compression/decompression would probably slow things down considerably. It seems to have helped quite a bit, but there are still moments when I'm staring at an hourglass for too long.

Today it's the photos. I was trying to browse through the photos on my internal memory, and it took maybe 15 or 20 seconds for them to appear. If it was always like that, it would suck, but it would make sense. But the photos pop right up most of the time.

Is there something I can do to speed this thing up?

Same thing happens to me all the time.
I always close any application that I don't use. It helps little bit.

as for the pictures, change the setting to list instead of thumbnails and they pop right up. anything over 20 pics, the thumbnails take too long. under list, there is no lag.

I'm talking about actually loading the image file, not the thumbnails. The thumbnails take a few seconds to load, but it's nothing unexpected.

What exactly does Content Compression do, and should I turn it on or off?

Content Compression reduces the amount of memory data uses on your BB. I don't know what impact it has on processing speed, but unless you are running out of memory, you might try turning it off and seeing what happens.

Thanks for the info! My pearl does kind of "freeze" also but not only when looking at photos but sometimes viewing contacts and other things. There is a lag and then suddenly it catches up like a pc. I will try to turn off the compression and see what happens!

    Thanks!
    Love my first BlackBerry (Pearl)!
