8100 Media Card Trouble
I bought a sweet little 8100 to play with off ebay. bought a 1GB media card, Kingston, and installed it, formatted it etc, etc. I downloaded about 25 MP3s and several wallpaper and saved them to the card, they work fine. I also downloaded 4 episodes of CSI that I got from vids4blackberry and downloaded them. My vids wont play, "an error has occurred attempting to play media". Wonder whats up, they work fine in my 8300, and my wifes 8100. The 8100 I just bought is a little older and has a 4.2.0 OS. Do yall think thats why? I tried the battery pull, even took the media card out and put it back in. Any help would be appreciated.
I would go ahead and upgrade the operating system to see if that helps....4.2.0 is going to be lacking some support (and I beleive that the later versions upgraded the Media app on the 8100), perhaps it is struggling with the format....another alternative would be to use Roxio to load the videos and let it "convert" to see if that makes a differerence.
Keep us posted!
I did load all of it thru DTM and used the Roxio MM. Do i have to wipe the OS using that JML Cmdr deal? How hard is it to upgrade to a 4.2.2? Remember when I bricked that 8700 and I never got the JLCmdr to work right. Any help would (as always) LOL be appreciated Gary.
Chokem....if you're just upgrading, there is no need to wipe the device. Just do a back up and upgrade the OS
do I need to take the media card out if I upgrade?
I upgraded like a month ago, and did NOT remove the card.
All I did was a back up, follow the instructions..and I'm up and running GREAT!! No Issues.
No need to wipe!
Here is what I would do....
1. Back Up
2. Downlaod and install the new OS on your destkop (dont forget to delete the vendor.xml file)
3. Launch DM and App loader - it will prompt you to upgrade.
Relax....dont disturb anything and let it do its thing!
For extra safety I usually reboot my desktop before the device installation and avoid any other activity until it is done.
Let us know if you need more help! I will keep an eye on this thread! Here is the link for the OS
8100 - 184.108.40.206
thanks beeshabo, what OS would you recommend?
hahaha..GaryF just posted the link you need!!
I hope it goes good for you..but as Gary stated, be patient and let it do it's thing!!
The directions say it can take anywhere from 15-20 minutes, mine took 35, i started to get worried when it hit the half hour mark, but I waited, and it all worked out great. so just wait and relax. Good luck
thanks, one more question, where will the alx files that I need to delet be on my PC? I appreciate you guys helpin me
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
Woop there it is....
Well glad we could help...good luck!!
Post back when your upgrade is complete to let us know how it went..
it's gonna be a little nerve wrecking, but you'll feel proud once it's all over and running good.
THe reload tends to go faster if you make sure and clean out call logs and Message, In my case I do a slective back up before the OS update or relaod, In Back up and restore I go to advanced, and back up only my address book, calander, Map locations, Browser book marks, Notes, and WIFI locations ( I have a Curve) and duinrg the update OR reinstall either one, I do NOT let the Apploader so a backup and restore of personal data.

thanks, I did a backup on the 8100, went to the Rogers site that Gary gave a link for, downloaded the 4.2.1 OS and designated it to be saved to my received files. After It finished I went there and it was not there, not anywhere on my PC, I looked for it for 15 mins. This is comical, Im like a bull in a china closet-LOL
Vista? I ussualy download to my desktop....
Search for 220.127.116.11 or Rogers
It will be an exe file created today....
