Just make sure you take your time and delete the vendor file. Only if not your carrier though
thanx sam i forgot about that...
u go to start, my computer, c:drive, program files, common files, research in motion, app loader, and scroll to the bottom and delete the vendor.xlm file
Yep!!! and then plug in your berry and replace outdated OS.
Ok now what does that do since i deleted that file?
sorry i have alot of questions but you guys have been really helpful and i thank you very much
whatcha mean.. since u deleted the file then u go to the site ( where i say here is another i just found) download the file for your 8110.. once u have downloaded the file double click it on your pc.. extract whatever it asks then open your desktop manager, press application loader, then go find where that file went (usually finds it for you, but just in case) then it will take anywhere between 45min to 1 hour and no1 thing..... please do a complete backup because once you do your os upgrade ur fone will most likely be wiped.. just an fyi... so backup first them do what i just said.
I've just recently upgraded (this morning) my 8100 from 126.96.36.199 to 188.8.131.52 (latest version)
First, Back up your 8100.
Download the file, install it, search and delete the vendor.xml file.
Then turn on the Desktop Manager, you should get a prompt saying that there are some new updates available (that what I got), accept it then choose which features and previous program to have installed then follow the direction. It will take a long time for the upgrading itself to process so DO NOT mess with your phone (like pressing some buttons) while the upgrade is in process. Again, it'll take quite a bit while so just wait. (I didn't wait and ended up having to try to reinstall twice the first time I tried to upgrade).
Hopefully the direction is clear for you
here is the link to the latest OS for the 8100 right now,
this one is the .108 version.
the link posted earlier is the older .38 version.
I am with Rogers and i upgraded my 8100 from 4.2 to 4.5. using the proper Rogers 4.5 version.
the pros with 4.5, address book look and feel, new suretype, phone stability all make the phone 500x better.
the cons with 4.5. the media app runs the phone into the ground, and often lock up the phone. I really don't use the media player in the phone so its no loss for me.
Try formatting your microSD card if you have one in the phone. Don't forget to save your pictures and stuffs to your PC first though.
I find that this is a somewhat common problems for peoples who have upgraded their OS with the microSD in the phone. I had similar problem with my phone just generally locking up randomly until I formatted the card. Never heard of that particular issue only affecting the media aspect though.
