not sure, only of course, if it has LEDs under it. I would be surprised if it did not though.

That could jut be light from the keyboard, I don't think they put an LED for the trackball itself, that would be a waste of money and battery life on a black trackball

I doubt they would waste $$ by putting led's behind the ball if it comes black standard....it would waste energy and be pointless

There's a thread here called escreens...

Go there, it'll show u how to temporarily get escreens on your device...
In the os engineering screen, go into the led section and see if you can turn the trackball light on n off... If you can, then you have an led there... If the light around it doesn't get affected, then its the keyboard leds... You can check that by turning them on n off too...

Would never give up my black track ball. And although its personal preference, can't see why anyone would.

I'm inclined to believe there are no leds under the trackball itself. If you look at the brightness of the menu and escape key, compare that to the ring, it seems apparent there isn't a light there. The ring is lit dimly, and on the sides, with the light growing fainter at the top and bottom.

Also, tilt your berry from side to side while looking at the ring you can see the light is clearly coming from leds positioned under the keys to the right and left.

    Save your money...

Not directed @ op, but my gf brother and I were talking about this today. He's got an 8330 and was commenting on my black trackball.

I never really understood why it was lit in the first place. Easiest thing to find on the device. I'd (personally) be content if the ring didn't show light through.

Maybe, but wouldn't trade that for my black. we're considering getting black for her 8310.
