You can have it unlocked and buy pre-paid sim cards. Just an option.

I had that same thought... the 8900 IS quad-band, is it not?
Also, is there a way to turn off all data communication while traveling, so that the BB becomes just a phone? I don't want to become a roaming charges horror story!
under options-- mobile network.. you should be able to turn data services off..
Phone: T-Mo S4- Stock-Rooted
Device: T-Mobile S3
Device: HTC Amaze 4G
Device: HTC Vision (T-Mobile G2)
Device: BlackBerry (9700, 8900,8320,8120,8100)
of course it will work. T-mobile wants you to use your phone while you are away in foreign countries so they can bend you over when you get your bill.
If you want to keep your BB because its mission critical for business or you are a BB fiend, you might want to look into getting a robust international data and voice plan for the duration of your trip.
or, like mentioned above. Unlock your phone and get pre-paid sim cards as you move around. But unlocking your BB brings on other challenges.
