    Water Damage?

I had my phone on the boat and the bag got a little wet. I noticed the case that my bberry was in was a bit damp too. When i took my bberry out of the case it seemed a little damp, but not wet. I never actually droped the bberry in the water. Only the bag that had the bbery in got a little wet. Anyway, ever since i got home the bbery doesn't start. At first i thought the battery was dead so i tried to recharge it, still nothing. I since took the battery out to see if it could be water damage. I guess my question is, is there a way to know for sure if it's water damage? I see a little white sticker next to the sim card and my battery has a little sticker with red Xs on it. But from what i've heard a lot of people have that.

    Thanks...

You need to let it dry completely before you try to restart it. Even if it is a little damp it could have water damage. You gonna have to let it sit for at least 24hrs to let it dry.

Hopefully you didn't short anything trying to charge it. Let it be and pray! Leave the battery out and take the SIM and SD card out too. Then try it in a day.

I would never take my BB out on a boat or to the beach. Too many unknowns can happen even in a zip lock baggy. Hopefully the isn't and water damage and try it in a day.

As for the white sticker on the phone and the white sticker on the battery with red x's, those are two of multiple liquid damage indicators on the phone. If either one of those has a hint of red/pink on them then your warranties are automatically voided due to liquid damage exposure.

the red X's on the battery is fine...but if they get wet they get blurred and the whole sticker is done. Trust me they will know if you have water damage.

reddog187, when you say "they" who exactly do you mean? I could easily just put a new battery in before taking it in. My question is not what I should do, but is there a way to tell that it's been water damaged. There are so many posts on here about water damage, but I have not found any concrete answer on how exactly you can tell that your bberry is water damaged, but somehow "they" know.

^^"They" meaning RIM ~ the ones that warrant your BlackBerry.
and also if you are on 30 day warranty return then "they" is primarily your Carrier.

so basically, there's no way to tell for sure, other then send it in and have RIM/ my carrier tell me what's wrong with it.

You could try that, but check out this thread post #2
I have seen other threads as well that there is a way to tell based upon the sticker color:

also in the event of future water damage check out this thread:

open up your device and look for a small square white sticker inside the battery compartment. As I recall on the 8300 it is near the SIM card slot. If this is pink or red it indicates water damage. All white = in the clear. You are correct, it is common for your battery to have a whote sticker with red Xs. If these are blurred or the sticker is now pink then you have moisture damage.

    Hope this is helpful.

thanks....unfortunately for me the blackberry was already dead by the time i took the battery out since it was in my bag the entire time. The weird thing is, i always had those red Xs on my battery and the white sticker above the sim card on the bberry is completely white. I'm hoping that it's just the battery that got fried. I'm gonna try a new battery tomorrow. Hopefully that will work.

From your post it does not sound like you have serious moisture damage.

    Good luck!

There is also another one inside. There may be residue left over from the minerals and other foreign matter in the liquid that got it wet. There are many ways "they" can tell if your phone has been wet. Of course there also have been phones that have been wet (submersed) that had absolutely no signs of liquid damage. If you know your phone has been wet and you do a warranty exchange because there are no outward signs of damage you take a chance that there may be inward signs and you will be hit with an out of warranty fee on your account.
