First try this: go to options->advanced options->applications->and then delete from there. I know you can get rid of some of the special characters functions that way, but I'm not sure about languages. See if they are listed there.

If they aren't there then try this: if you have the Desktop Manager installed on a computer, as well as the device software from your service provider's website, you can hook your bb up to Desktop Manager and run the application loader from the home screen. You can then uncheck the boxes of whatever you want to get rid of and it will clear it.

Just to forewarn you, a lot of people have trouble getting desktop manager to work. Make sure you download the device software in addition to the cd that came with your BB.

See this thread for more info on that:

I would use AppLoader directly and not via DM to delete unused languages.

You are correct. I think Peter meant it is better to use Application loader than to just delete them on the device.....

I would suggest you use Application Loader, you will see the languages that are installed and can remove them easily, and permanently.

IIRC... Follow the white rabbit to c:\program files\shared\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe

Copy a link onto your desktop and you can run AppLoader without DM started.

Very interesting. I guess I stand proven incorrect. I thought you might say that...but that just seems a little unnecessary to me. Unless it is to prevent extra processes from running. Does it not start processes for the destop/device manager?

    Well then I stand corrected...

Peter, what is the advantage to launching App Loader independently of the Destkop Manager application?

Gary, the only thing is not to start DM. It works similar with Roxios MediaManager. (C:\program files\roxio\media manager 9\mediamanager9.exe)

    No more, no less

Install device manager, (the program that came on CD with your BB). If you don't have the CD, check out the blackberry website:

    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/

I had some problems trying to download version 4.3, but get the latest one you can. After it is installed, application loader is an "option" on the Desktop Manager home screen.

    Device Manager is installed.
After opening Device Manager and then clicking on Applications Loader- Then what do you do to find "Languages" - to uninstall the languages that aren't being used?
    Thanks.

    Re: uninstall languages on 8310

You should see all of the languages listed.

If you do not, you probably don't have the device software installed.

Have you ever loaded any apps to the device?

The easiest way to see if you have the device software installed is to go to control panel-->add/remove programs and find "Blackberry Desktop Software v.x.x" (for whatever version you have). Below that should be another listing that looks similar "Blackberry Desktop Software v.x.x.x for the Blackberry XXXX smartphone" (for whatever version and whatever phone model you have).

If you don't see two listings you gotta install that device software ON YOUR COMPUTER to get apploader to work.

To find your carrier's device software and instructions on what to do, see this thread:

They may just be loaded in that list of apps you see. If they are not there, you may need to install the desktop manager software. As posted above, you could try and run the setup wizard app that's in the phone, if you haven't done that before, it should ask if you want to remove unused languages.
