Have you loaded any new apps or themes lately?

This error is caused when you receive a corrupted email or if you happen to delete the time and date bar above the messages.
This link should help you, basically a hard reset is called for - take the battery out and hold the power button down for at least 15 seconds (30 is recommended). There is another option if that doesn't work.

    Hope it helps!

I think I did delete the date bar, how did I do that? So I can prevent it from happening again?

The only way I know to prevent that is to not highlight it when you're deleting messages. You can delete every date bar except the most current one.

Guys just to fill you in, I haven't had the time to get on the links you've recommended but today as I was on the underground I decided to erase my facebook application n viola! My phone started working properly again, no error message on restart n I can read all my messages, so it was the application which was faulty.
