    Lower case uma is like lower case edge, you do not have a fully functioning data connection.

    Good explaination. If I may I'll go a bit in depth. The lower case means you have no data connection, meaning no internet, emails and so on. Also, you may not see UMA at all but have the WiFi symbol lit up, that means you are not connected to the carriers server and all calls will go against you minutes but you still have data over a WiFi network. It may take a few minutes for the uma to swith to UMA, just be patient it just means the association with the router and server is taking a bit longer.
