Trying to upgrade to 4.5 os.....
Last nite I spent quite a while following all the step by step intructions to upgrade my AT&T 8310 to a new 4.5 os. I did everything in the order of instruction yet my DM (4.6) dosen't seem to recognize the new os and install it to the BB. What can I do to resolve this issue? I did delete the venter.xml file.
Have you deleted the vendor.xml file?

Ok first did you delete the old OS from your PC? Also did you reboot at anytime during the process? You can look here for help.
The key to getting the DM 4.6 to recognize the OS after downloading and deleting the vendor.xml file is to actually open up the OS on your PC/laptop and follow all instructions to install.
Once this is completed,
Be sure to delete vendor.xml, and be sure to do a backup of your device.
Then plug in your BB, then open up DM.
It should now recofnize your new OS waiting for you.

I ran the new os executable... followed all the instructions.
How do I delete the old os?
Go into add/remove programs on your PC and uninstall it from there.
Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs (Programs and Features if you're on Vista).
Look for anything that says BlackBerry Device Software 4.x. If you have more than one 4.5, you'll want to delete the older ones.
I was actually having this same issue just 2 nights ago when i finally made the move to OS 4.5.
Check the thread and solutions/responses i got from fellow great stackers here the other night:
Here are the steps that you MUST follow in order to upgrade your device OS...
1. Download the new operating system on your desktop. If you have an 8310 the OS MUST be for the 8310....the OS for an 8300 or 8320, etc will NOT install on you device
2. Install the OS on your desktop. The application you have downloaded is an installer. You must run it in order to install the software on your PC.
3. IF the new OS is not from you carrier, locate and delete the vendor.xml file. Until you do this the DM will not recognize the software for your device. That file is found here:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
4. Run the application loader with your device connected. You can either run Desktop Manager / Application Loader, or run the Loader application found in the same folder as the vendor file.
If you need to confirm that the Device Software is properly installed, go to Control Panel, Add Remove Programs and you should see Blackberry Device Software listed under the Installed Programs list.
So no reply from you, was any of us able to help with your issue?
Thank you all for your input..... I was able to accomplish the upgrade. Seems it took all the information in a number of the posts to get the task accomplished. Again thank you all for your help.
Glad to hear it!
