    track ball has no response to push

    when i push down on the trackball, it clicks like it always dose but it doesn't do anything. I have done a reset and a battery pull and that didn't help. I've had this problem once before with the curve but it was under warranty so i just replaced it... no longer under warranty. please help.

    You could disassemble it...probably just has a bit of dust under there.

    dust under wear? the track ball? or the sensor? I removed the track ball and cleaned it... but that didn't do anything. is there a way to get under the sensor?

    Try a little compressed air. I had to do that this weekend when my trackball refused to scroll down. Fixed me right up

    Good tip on the compressed air! Ill have to keep that in mind if I ever have issues with the track ball.

    the compressed air didn't work, now the return key does not work and the phone no longer recognizes the 'alt, caps, del' for the reset/refresh function... can these phones get viruses? this is really strange to me.

    Viruses have not been an issue. Is this a new device?

    Any recent trauma to the device? Drop, moisture exposure, etc? Any new applications installed recently?

    One of the things I have found is the contact that the trackball pushes on, the metal tab that is part of the unit, seems to have a second piece, a little disk, Not totally sure about its location, He is where i got this Idea, A guy I was helping with a Wont scroll right issue, on a Pearl out of warranty, We took the track ball assembly out, and stuck to the roller for the right side was a little round disk about the size of the metal contact, it is big enough it should not have gotten there by change. But nothing in the phone seemed to be missing, after removing what we assumed to be some thing that didn't belong, the scrolling worked and selecting with the ball took way more pressure then it should have. After examining the track ball assembly again, and comparing it to my working one, It seems the contact in my track ball was thicker then his, Unfortunately the little object we removed had been discarded by this time. So I can't say we glued it back on and the mystery was solved. But the thickness seems to lead to that little disk was adhered to the contact and became dislodged> He is buying a replacement unit form CNN.
