    Time Zone Trouble

I've got the Curve on AT&T's network and I live in the midwest. When I setup my phone's time and date I put Central (Central US & Canada) as the time zone, and I set the source for the time as the network. I've now traveled to the east coast, which is an hour ahead and my phone still displays the time from home, even though the network time shows the correct time. All the previous non-RIM phones I have owned updated automatically when I traveled into the network area within a different time zone. Has anyone noticed this before or can someone advise on how to fix this. Thanks in advance, I hate having to remember add an hour every time I look at my phone.

Yep this is a complaint that alot of new users have. It usually is prefaced with, "I paid $xxxx for the latest greatest device and it can't do (insert basic function here) that my previous (insert basic free device from the carrier) could do." You will miss soemthings, but what you gain will more than ,ake up for it, and after a while you will wonder how you ever got along without this device. Welcome, and glad you made the switch.

    Comment on the above....

I beleive that the reason that BB performs in this manner is related to the calendar feature. When you manually change your timezone the BB remembers appointments based on the time zone you entered them in - therefore if you are in Dallas and enter a 3 pm appoinntment for Wednesday, then you travel to NY and change the time ZONE manually, your reminder will still come up at 4 pm local time (3 pm Dallas time). So, if you use calendar and reminders you are really better off just adjusting your time (rather than the time zone) as you travel.

I'm glad I saw this, I'll be in California in May and CT. NY in July and would have been wondering what was up with that. Great info thanks! ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

I disagree with the last statement. You just have to make sure that the appointment/event is also entered for the Timezone that it is occuring. This means that if I am in Dallas and entering an event that will take place In New York, at 3 pm, I set the appt for 3 Pm and the TZ for the appt as Eastern. Then when I change the TZ for the BB when I travel the times will be correct. This is the same way thet Outlook works and is really helpful when traveling and have to call in to meetings via teleconference. When you change the TZ for your location in the BB, it automatically changes the time for the reminder to the correct local time.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~Great point RCB. I guess I tend to just plug appt's flights etc into outlook with little regard to what TZ I will be in.

You learn fast when you've got telecons with participants on both coasts, DFW and Tucson. And your design reviews occur all over the country. And Outlook handles the multiple time zone meeting requests great and the BB Calendar mimics outlook.
