Okay bare with me here--I'm still used to my Motorola RIZR Z3 haha. I just got my Curve 8300 yesterday.
But anyway, whenever I get a call the MP3 ringtone goes off but when I get a text it is a beeping noise..Is there anyway to change this?

    Thanks

Yeah, go to your sound profiles, scroll down to advanced, click your active profile, scroll down to sms text, and edit away!

Don't forget to change in holster as well as out of holster settings.

The thing is when you do that it will be the same tone for every text that you receive. That's my understanding. My question is can you set a tone to alert you for "who" is sending the text, like you assign a ring tone for different people who call you in your address book?

No. We just went through this the other day when the same question was broached. I would swear that I remember someone prior (this was with a Pearl) giving the instructions on how to make this happen with the text, and for the life of me I tried and tried and could not get the option to happen (there just was no option to invidividualize the text). So I would have to say no, although I reserve the right to change my answer if I can get it to work.

That's fine; that is all I really wanted just my texts to be a different ringtone.
But if you figure out how to do that, cupiecat or squeakr, please let me know.
    Thanks

You cannot customize SMS ringtones per individual contact. There is only one universal SMS ringtone as of now.

Correct. You can change ringtones per contact, but not Text tones.

OK. In spite of how easy that sounds, I can't, for the life of me, find any way to get into the sound profiles! I'm not that dumb, am I? (I know that's a loaded question!)

From your homescreen, press menu. In menu, there should be an icon that looks like a speaker or megaphone. Click that, that'll be your sound profiles.

From your home screen hit the F key... it's the profile shortcut -

You must first disable dialing from the homescreen (Phone > Menu > Options > General Options > Dial From Home Screen = No)

then u can do all the shortcuts - B = Browser, F = Profile etc...

your profiles icon will change dependent upon the theme used... sometimes it will be a speaker, sometimes something else... but, it will ALWAYS be on the home screen... just scroll thru to find that puppy

Not always true on being scrollable to on the home screen, as if you are using something like the T-Mo Zen, then you must hit the menu button to pull up the other screen with all of the available app icons. I am using the T-Mo Zen home screen with the MyFaves icons visible and although the profile icon is there it is just to tell the currently active profile as there is no way for me to scroll to it (I used to be able to on my Pearl, but that was with AT$T and no MyFaves) with the Curve, the cursor just will not go to it (I have to diasble dialing from home screen and use the f shortcut key).
