    hi all,

    Question:

I've only been using the WiFi connection of the 8320 since I got it back in December. I've NEVER had the $20/data plan from t-Mobile.

If I pick up the data plan for $20/month, is it really WORTH it?

Basically, right now, the data plan would only be "used" for outside areas of WiFi. not sure of the ratio to "Free" WiFi compared to locked networks.

    Just curious!

Also, how "fast" is the dataplan surfing compared to Wifi access points?

    Thanks!

Its worth it to me. let me give you some examples. I use a IM program that uses data only not text called jivetalk. Another is gmail app and google maps which use data to retreive the data from the maps program and emails from gmail. Last example is that i use a app called bbweather and it uses data as well. I also like to read rss feeds which uses data as well. If your not going to use any of these types of things then the data plan might not be for you.

When I use Opera Mini, its pretty quick depending on sites you visit as well. Plus a lot of the programs I use depend on the data plan so I feel its worth it.

It just depends on what it is worth to you to have data in more area. I love the data plan, I tend to spend most of my travel time away from WIFI though, so to me it is not even close. Speed wise, WIFI is better for sure, the range for EDGE is supposed to be 72 to 120, so it is considered faster the Dail up. But like any connection, it can changed based on the amount of traffic on the tower you are on. so one on the edge of town will do better the one in the middle of town during the work week.

not worth it because the EDGE data is so slow compared to wifi, how often are you not in wifi? if not that often then dont get it.

Thanks for the quick responses folks!

From what I read on T-Mobile's webiste, it's $20/month, and you can remove the service anytime.

Maybe I should use it for a month and see if it's worth it.

    Another stupid question:

How do I know if it's using the Wifi connection or the EDGE connection while surfing?

EDGE is slower, but it can pick up some good speed depending on your location. When I'm at home EDGE is really slow, but when I'm at work it moves pretty fast.

Try going to your My T-Mobile page and resending the service books. Also, make sure your Browser app isin't hidden by accident

I tried the resend service books, not even sure if the phone is even getting them.

I goto "Manage Connections" and "Service Status" and Blackberry Internet Service says Connection: Not Connected

Doesn't even look like I've got the Service books for RIM Internet....anybody tell me what service books I SHOULD have for the data plan?

but really bugs me is no text confirming that I added the service.
