    Suggested fix for curve trackball

Here is a fix i am suggesting about these trackballs. Personally i liked the wheel better on the side but anyway. It is very common to place the phone flat against your face and any oils and sweat on your cheek or ear cover the phone and of corse the track ball. Over time this builds up on the tiny rollers and interferes with the contact of the ball to them. Have you ever had a ball mouse that acted the same and from time to time you have to take the ball out and clean the rollers. My suggestion is to be concious of how you place the phone against your head. I hold the speaker to my ear and tilt the phone out away from my face so as little of the phone touchs my skin as possible.

    ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

It could also be from rolling the ball, which happens way more often...

although this is a great tip, I think it's silly we have to resort to it
wish there was something else we could do to prevent the grime build up, or more easily clean it.

    but thanks...

I think they meant "and don't.." and yes I agree it helps reduce the oil. I do it because it feels weird to me to feel the buttons and the pearl against my cheek ;-).
I just wish we had like a pearl condom or something to cover it and prevent grime.

you could also just use a headset and your phone won't touch your face.

I agree that minimizing the amount of contact to your face, clean hands, and keeping it out of your pocket will decrease the amount of grime and dirt underneath your trackball, but no matter what, it will get dirty over time. The simple solution is to clean the trackball every so often.

you would honestly think RIM would make this possible, maybe by uncrewing the the silver ring from the socket holding the ball and allowing the ball to be removed and giving replacements with the new phone.
