    Strange Problem 4.5 OS

Hey all, I've had 4.5 installed from T-Mobile from Day #1.

On more than a few occassions the phone gets the spinning hourglass while doing WHATEVER and just sits there.

The ONLY way to get it off is to do a battery pull.

Now, after the battery pull, the hourglass shows BACK up, and clears itself after like 5 minutes.

Any clues to what I can do?

Re-install OS? Or is this a bug?

    Thank you!

    Splitz,

What is your memory situation? Check Options - Status - File Free = ?

A low memory state will cause some unexpected results, frequent hourglass among them.....

Also, which 4.5 version do you have? Options - About. You may want to upgrade to a higher version of 4.5.

Definitely try and get rid of apps and themes you don't need. That helps out a lot with the memory situaltion. I have the T-Mobile 4.5 and I find myself having to do a battery pull on occasion too. ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

I don't have any links at the moment, but do a search on how to free up memory on your phone. You have way too little free memory, have you also had disapearing call logs and sms deleting? Let's try that first, then if you're still having problems we can get you on another os. Let me know if you need info on freeing up memory on your phone, I can do that later. Or if someone else reads this on a pc, they could find some links too . ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Looks like your memory is really low. Delete what you don't need. That should help a lot.

Does it matter that I've got a 4MB card in it?

Or is the free memory the "Device" memory only and that's what the phone runs on?

I'll delete some stuff that I don't use, I have a bunch of themes that I NEVER use, I usually only use BB Dimension Today.

I will delete and post back.

    Thanks guys!

That is a lot better than what you had before. Here's a couple of things to do

    1. Messages - Options - Keep Messages. Set this to the minimum (15 days).
    2. Go through your messages, if you need to keep it, mark it as Saved, if not, delete it. You can highlight a date, Menu, Delete Prior, it will delete everything up to the date you have selected. You can also hold down Shift and scroll through messages to multi-select and delete them that way.
    3. In Messages, Menu, View Folder, pick one (I usually have a lot in my sms outbox) and delete them, unless you need it.
    4. Call logs can be deleted in the same way, holding Shift while scrolling through the list, Menu, Delete. Your bb not only stores the number, but also keeps a history for that number.
    5. On the main screen, hold Alt, press LGLG. This will get you to an event log screen, Menu, Delete.
    6. Options - Security Options - Memory Cleaning. Even if you have it disabled, Menu, Clean Now.

Do these and let us know what your mem free is.

Thanks for the help, I'm sure that didn't take you like 2 seconds to type all that out, I reall appreciate it!

I did all that now showing:

    10683624

What is the total memory size for the phone?

I forget the total size, I just looked at mine and it says 55mb. I'm on OS 4.5.93. I usually have between 17 and 10 mb free.

One more thing you can do, go into your browser, Menu, Options, Cache Operations, clear out everything. You should see another bump in file free.

No problem, ask anything else you can think of, and if I don't have an answer, someone else will! Ah, the beauty of Pinstack!
