Alright alright, well here's the scenario.

I backed up from my pearl when I had bought this wonderful 8310.

And in that backup file was only one pending BB Messenger contact.

Well today I get a Smiley face so I read the reply to this post and figure it is BBM.

So I was trying to click and right click on that pending contact and only options were to delete or to make new group etc etc. Well I finally came to terms with myself and agreed I wasn't going to be able to read it, therefore I deleted. Rebooted a couple times and the damn thing is still smiling at me.

    Any comments/suggestions?

    muwahahah evil :-) <----

    Update:

Haha, I even removed BB Messenger and the evil smiley is still haunting me.

you may want to backup your device and wipe it then try restoring everything except for bbmessenger info.

^^ Infact that is one of my questions right now. I figured out I had updated to 4.5.0.10 so now I am updating to *.42

The question was, from my last backup I had a bunch of data I didn't want restored (i.e. and e-mail account that I couldn't delete from BB) So is there a way to filter what is actually restored?

I know I could use abc amber edit to edit the phonebook entries but that has nothing to do with the rest of the data being reloaded.

I was looking around the forums for the easier way to wipe the device, can someone suggest the keywords I would search for to find the most efficient method?

    Thanks,
    koH

Before you upgrade try going to backup/restore and the advanced there you can clear your BB messenger logs directly on your phone then upgrade and see how that works out...

This is correct this is also how you restore only certain things. If you go in to Backup and Restore then Advanced. You can click file and go to open and open your most recent backup file. From here you can pick and choose what information gets restored to your device.

BB Messenger isn't even in there, I suppose that is because I have removed it with the App Loader,

although, of course, the smiley is still there, some mornings I wake up and see a yellow circle like the smile with a red exed out sign around it like a no smoking symbol.
