Looks like March for Verizon users - Skype's Verizon deal spells 'BlackBerry'

Is an EDGE connection good enough for Skype? I would think it would require a 3G connection ...

I would imagine that you it would work ok on an 8900 using your Wifi connection.

I know when I tethered my 8900 to my laptop and tried skype installed on my laptop, it was way to slow and lost connection. Wasn't in a wifi area.

Don't know if that is a good indication of how it would work just with the phone though.

Are we talking about video chat on the phone? I'm new to the Blackberry world also. Is video chat possible - skype or no skype?

No front facing cameras so no video on the bb, plus I very much doubt it could cope with the requirements, certainly the networks would have a problem, video chat on other phones tends to work over Wi-Fi not 3G. When 4G is truly available it may come but then watch out for your cell phone bills.
I have been using a local number with Skype for a number of years on my blackberry works, pretty well, but is obvioulsy not the answer. So as mentioned above the app is available for Verizon only, there are other options/apps out there that connect to Skype, I haven't tried them.
