Is there a shortcut to lock the key pad? On my old pearl I just held the * key and it locked. I also would hold the # and it changed the profile to vibrate. Is there shortcut like this for the curve?

I assined one of my side convienence keys to do this function. To do so go to your options menu. Then select screen and keyboards. Scroll down till you see asign convience keys. Select which one you would like to do this function select keyboard lock and there you have it. Keyboard short cut.

Go to the Phone and then to Options. Select "No" for Dial From Home Screen. This will allow you to use Shortcut Keys from your Home Screen. You still have to press the "Talk/Answer" key to get to the phone to dial a number. Here are a list of the Shortcut Keys and their associated application:
    K - Keyboard Lock
    R - Alarm
    U - Calculator
    A - Address Book
    S - Search
    D - Memo Pad
    F - Profiles
    L - Calendar
    B - Browser
    N - BB Messenger
    M - Messages
    T - Tasks

So does this also replace the speed dial keys - if you select "no" option on dial from home screen?

No, the shortcuts are done by a short press of the key, speed dials are done by a long press.

For example, lets say you have a friend named Bob in your speed dial and is set to the "B" key.

Quick press and release of B will open the browser.
Press and hold B will speed dial Bob, even with dial from home screen turned off.

The only thing dial from home screen allows you to do is dial a number/search your address book without pressing the phone key first. If you really can't manage to press that one button before you start dialing, you need to work on your impatience.
