I've had issues with Ramble IM also.
I suggest going to beejive.com and downloading JiveTalk for a 30-day free trial. After that it costs $20-$30, but totally worth it and I'm sure most people on the stacks would agree with me.

Yes, I don't trust any other instant messenger program besides JiveTalk!

Jive Talk is cool. I was finally able to get it work with our corporate Jabber server so now I can chat while out of the office..

Our Jabber IM server is on SSL and with finally getting the right settings, I was able to login. How do you have the MSN configured? Below is some info I used to get mine up and running. This would be the settings under the account created for Jabber setup.

    You need:

HostName: (Of the IM Server) ie COMPANY.IM.COM

Port: (Defined by your IT, typically its 5222 for unsecure, if they have it running SSL which they should, again this port will be defined by your IT dept.)

Jabber Resource: DEFAULT (I left this value as is)

I am by no means and expert at setting this stuff up, and it took me a couple days to finally get it.
