    "Q" button and "A" button

I just recently noticed that the Q button changes your profile to vibrate
and the A button Locks the device.

Is this a new feature with new OS's or is it something that came with the 4.6 OS?

They assigned A and Z in the speed dial list to lock the phone and set to vibrate.

Subtle bit of detail to add:

If you tap "Q" or "A" quickly, as when typing a name, it still works from the home screen even when "dial from home screen" is turned on (which I love). If you *hold* the "Q" or "A" for a second, the keys trigger the action described above. A good mnenomic for "Q" is "Quiet" -- very convenient! Not sure how "A" implies "lock" - Access? Accessible? Or maybe the # sign could suggest "impound"...

Anyway -- very nice convenience feature!

my 8900 has a lock button on the very top that I consider slightly more convenient that holding a key on the keyboard...

Yeah - the lock button seems a bit redundant, but the "Q" button will prove very convenient. Would be nice if we could map each of these individually to our own favorite functions.

since i don't use standby, i normally use the K, but i think that the A is used maybe bc to UNLOCK it, you have to press A (or *) and the green call button?

works on the bold too, don't have the curve here to test...

i always disable dial from homescreen, the shortcuts are the BEST thing about owning a qwerty device

I like dialing from the home screen -- just start typing somebody's name...I use this when I'm indoors, and voice dialing outdoors or in my car. But I really do like having the ability to dial by name from the home screen when I need it.

The fact that shortcuts like this work, even with dial from homescreen on, simply by holding the shortcut down for perhaps a second, is fantastic -- I get the best of both worlds this way: dial from homescreen AND shortcuts. No compromise / no sacrifice.

LOL - how many different ways do we 8900 users need to lock our keypads? You've got the lock button at the very top, hold down the A, and with homescreen dialing off, K also works to lock it. Seems redundant to me!

Also, my gf's name begins with A, but now I can't use that as her speed dial. Oh well, time to break up with her.
