OS 4.5 Upgrade and Battery Pull

I just upgraded to the latest version 4.5.0.81 and after OS installed, the device locked up and sat with an hourglass spinning for an hour. I did a battery pull and the device finally booted and restored the applications and data.

It happened before when I did a previous upgrade, I think to 4.5.0.61

    Everything apprears to be working.

    has anyone else encounted this?

Did you do the upgrade with a media card in the device?

    What would this do?

When I upgraded to 4.5.0.37, the same thing happened to me. I kept freaking myself out over whether I should do a pull or not. Eventually I just went in the other room and watched a movie. By the time I came back to the BB, it was loaded normally with the new firmware.

Lots of people have reported issues with continuous reboots, etc having done the upgrade with the media card installed, especially those with 8320s.

Just reread your post, smithwe1. Did you pull the battery while the device was reinitializing during the upgrade or after the upgrade was complete and your device was disconnected from the PC?

I had no issues... My upgrading process was smooth. Also with the SD card in my phone.

You'll have to downgrade in order to accomplish this, but you'll want to offload the media card contents to your PC, downgrade the OS on your device, then re-do the upgrade without the media card. Once the upgrade is done, put the media card back in the device and format it, then reload it with whatever you offloaded onto the PC.

Subsequent releases generally address the minor annoyances of their predecessors. If you're not having issues with the release you currently have, no sense in upgrading, at least until an official OS is released by your carrier.

I was having some serious freezing problems after upgrading to 4.5.0.81.. I Was about to downgrade to 4.5.0.55 which was flawless for me. THEN I read this thread and re-formated my MicroSD card, and so far it seems to have taken care of the freezing issue. Hopefully this will remedy any issues because i was increasingly becoming frustrated.

I have T-Mobile 8320 and everything works fine with the 4.5 upgrade. When I put the phone down, it starts to restart itself, non stop. I am going to try to downgrade and upgrade without the media card and see what happens.

You don't have to do that. I had the same problem and someone gave me instructions on how to fix it. I'll post when I get home.
