Waiting for an 8820 upgrade here. I'm just curious to know if the os is better than my current one.

    OS 4.5 for 8330

I have the VZW 8330. Correct me if I'm wrong but to me it looks like the 8330 already does what OS 4.5 is supposed to "change." Do a search for the "new" things that people say it enables and tell me what you think.

VZW does not have the 4.5 os yet. The new OS will have:

    • BlackBerry Maps with Points of Interest (H)
    • Improved media player with playlist support and automatic playlist generation (H)
    • Voice note recording (H)
    • Video recording on Curve models (H)
    • Streaming support for YouTube and Sling Player (H)
    • Microsoft Office document editing with DocumentsToGo (H)
    • Native format attachment downloading (S)
    • HTML e-mails (S)
    • Over-the-air device upgrades (S)
    • Free/busy calendar lookup (S)
    • Searching the server for old e-mail messages (S)

As of now VZW doesn't have that yet.

4.5 will not be compatible with the 8330...it is meant for gsm devices. the 4.3 os does all the features for cdma that the 4.5 upgrade will do for gsm

They will release a CDMA compatible version. 4.5 was formerly known as 4.3.1. Since the 8330 is running 4.3 - a majority of the handheld features are present.

It is not a matter of GSM vs CDMA. Here's what it will provide by supported device:

BlackBerry Pearl 8100 or BlackBerry 8800:
    • Spell check (H)
    • BlackBerry Maps with Points of Interest (H)
    • Improved media player with playlist support and automatic playlist generation (H)
    • Voice note recording (H)
    • Streaming support for YouTube and Sling Player (H)
    • Bluetooth stereo music (H)
    • Microsoft Office document editing with DocumentsToGo (H)
    • Native format attachment downloading (S)
    • HTML e-mails (S)
    • Over-the-air device upgrades (S)
    • Free/busy calendar lookup (S)
    • Searching the server for old e-mail messages (S)

    BlackBerry Pearl 8130:
    • Automatic playlist generation in the media player (H)
    • Microsoft Office document editing with DocumentsToGo (H)
    • Native format attachment downloading (S)
    • HTML e-mails (S)
    • Over-the-air device upgrades (S)

Any BlackBerry Curve or the BlackBerry 8820 or 8830:

    • HTML e-mails (S)
    • Over-the-air device upgrades (S)
    • Free/busy calendar lookup (S)
    • Searching the server for old e-mail messages (S)

    BlackBerry 8700 or 8703e:
    • Spell check (H)
    • BlackBerry Maps with Points of Interest (H)
    • New pictures and ringtones applications (H)
    • Voice note recording (H)
    • Microsoft Office document editing with DocumentsToGo (H)

4.3 for Verizon does SOME of the features and that's because the curve was released so late. But it doesn't not do them all. So there will be a OS upgrade coming out for it as well as Sprint, and Alltel customers. See the list above and you can see that the current OS doesn't do ALL of the things.

Well now that is cleared up, I simply cannot wait for the cdma users to enjoy the joy that the gsm users have received.....bastards.

I'm a little confused. I installed 4.5.0.52 Orange UK and DocumentsToGo was not installed. How do I get this?

Connect your BB to your PC and launch Desktop Manager. Hopefully you have DM 4.5, but don't think it matters. Check your Application Loader and you should see Docs to Go without a check next to it. Click to enable and hit next (or finish, not sure which one) and it should install Docs To Go on your device. Then you want to go into one of the Docs To Go programs and click update. Your BB will download a new vesion whcih will give you an Excel type program. You will need to go into your PC and rename a file C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Shared/Loader Fies/(probably the filename for 4.5)/DocumentsToGO.alx. Rename the .ALX file to .old and you should be good to go.
