Noticed something today about the Curve. May save u some battery life

I had both the Curve and the 8700 outside today. The sun... out in ALL it's glory as a result the screen of the 8700 was almost impossible to read without changing angles etc.

However, the Cruve performed great in sunlight compared to the 8700. It's almost as good as the 7290 and other 72xx series. To date they are the BEST in sunlight IMO.

Next, I set my backlight on the Curve to 10% in the sun and it made absolutely NO difference. Still easy to read. Also indoors 10% is great for me.

The backlight as with other models is useless for sunlight... still I had it up 100% on the 8700 because of the poor performance in sunlight or bright areas. *desperation* ha

You don't have to set your backlight to 10% but if you have it set to 80% or more I'd drop it 10 or 20 percent. For the battery life benefits.

    Hope this helps...

P.S. Any 72xx users out there who can attest to the sunlight performance of those old models?

I definately have noticed that the curve is much better in the sunlight than my 8700. Sorry I can't remember back to the 72xx series...

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~the 7xxxs were morlds better in sunlight. We took a major step back when all the 7xxxs were retired. Then again the 6xxxs were great in sunlight too but they were only monochrome and you just needed to increase the contrast for outdoor use.

Even at 50%, it's not that bad here inside. I'll try it in the sun tomorrow.

    Hope this helps.

Putting mine at 50% as well and didn't notice much difference either. Thanks for the good suggestion.

My 7290 was awesome outside. My 8700c was not. My new 8300 is perfect outside. I'll try this tip. Thanks!

if you have the automatic backlight enabled the settings won't matter.

Partly true. It will only obey the 10% when not needed. It will default to 10 under normal circumstances and overide when need be. May be our best option. You should be able to see when automatic overides the setting esp if u have it as low as 10%.

When I get my curve next week, first thing I will do is set the brightness to 10% lol Thanks!

Make sure to also run the setup wizard - it's a great help, unlike previous models.

Dropped my brightness to 20% and almost barely see a different from 100%... nice find. I messed with it on the Pearl and saw no change so thought it was just a non-working option lol
