    Mp3 problems

I'm trying to figure out why I cannot play some of my mp3's.

I get this error only on some mp3's: "The media being played is of an unsupported format"

The mp3's are unprotected encoded at 128kb stereo and no bigger than 5MB.

The same file plays fine on my blackjack though.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Where are you trying to play it from? Memory or SD card?

One thing I did notice is that all the files that wont play show a run time of 0:00 (meaning its not reading how long the song is).

    Why though?

I think I might have found the solution/problem.

Apparently its an indexing issue. I'm going to give it a shot and post back.

It has nothing to do with the file size. Are you using the roxio software that came with the install disc? If you are, try dragging and dropping the mp3's into the music folder once your bb is plugged into your pc. It should bring up a square box with three options. Choose advanced options and in the audio portion, click the "convert to mp3" box on the bottom left hand corner. This solved my problem. Hope it helps for you.

The advice in the links did nothing.

I have a card reader and I just drag and drop my files onto the memory card. I don't use any additional software.

Is there any other way to do this besides using that software? Does anyone know exactly what that software is doing to the file?

    Re: Mp3 problems

I tried using media manager from the desktop software (4.2.0) and it still does the same thing. Certain songs just display 0.00 for length even though the whole file is there and playable on other phones and computers.

Can I send someone an mp3 to see if they can play it?

    Re: Mp3 problems

I'm having this same problem on a new 8310. Some songs transfer and play but others get the "media being played is of an unsupported format" error message. Was there ever a resolution to this problem. I didnt see one listed?
