No reported memory leaks from anyone, all seems to be running smooth on my 8310 as well.

Sorry for the 'noob' question here, but not sure which vendor.xml file you're talking about deleting and where to find it. Just got my AT&T 8310 on friday and loving it so far. Thanks.....

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

    should be in that folder.

or you can always just do a search on your PC for the vendor.xml file.

    Re: Latest 8310 OS: Vodafone 4.2.2.176 (10.15.07)

Does it matter which version of desktop manager I use for the upgrade? I recently purchased an 8310 from AT&T. (BES) My company set me up with it and installed Desktop Manager for me. The version I have installed is 4.2.0.10 (July 26 2006). It also says Policy Set: <my company's name>

So here's my question. I want to upgrade to the latest OS version, but if I install the latest version of desktop manager, will it effect my BES performance at all? Will I lose the firm policy settings or anything? Can I perform the upgrade with my current version of DM?

    Re: Latest 8310 OS: Vodafone 4.2.2.176 (10.15.07)

Since upgrading my 8310 to this OS, whenever I make a call and the other end picks up, I get a "click" noise then all is well. This noise wouldn't be a problem but it can hinder hearing them saying hello. The click sounds just like when someone picks up an old corded phone and then hangs up.

    Any ideas?

I'm new to BlackBerry and have been reading up, but I have yet to find anything about how to edit the .alx files, which it seems is where you can do a lot of the customization. Can someone point me to any guidance on these files? Is this how I can remove the PTT software from my ATT 8310? Any help is appreciated.

See this thread for the unlocked vendor themes or how to create the .alx file:
    http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...or_themes.html

    To remove PTT:
Follow THIS path exactly and delete the file: net_rim_bb_phone_ptt_app.cod (easier to see if you
    switch to List view)
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8300-v4.2.2.114_P2.4.0.53\Java

the digits in red may be different, but as long as its the 8300 OS you will be fine.

Thanks for the response. I'll start to remove my PTT shortly. As for the .alx, I saw the post about themes, but was looking for more information. Before switching to the BB, I had Motorolas, which you could modify the heck out of, and there were "seem maps" of what files changed what. I was looking for something similar. The unlocked vendor themes is a good place to start I guess, but I'm still looking for more information. Thanks again!

    Re: Latest 8310 OS: Vodafone 4.2.2.176 (10.15.07)

I guess just looking for other things i could disable or enable. For instance, I use either Google Maps or BB Maps, and do not want TeleNav on the device. Not sure if that is able to be removed through similar edits, or if Cingular will push stuff to it. same thing with Streaming music, music ID, etc. Like I said, I'm really new, so just trying to get a good idea on what can and can't be changed. Again, thanks for the help, and hope I'm not hi-jacking the thread.

jj -- scroll to those and click menu/hide

the media stuff is pushed thru with service books, so they may come 'back'...they don't take up much space.

not sure about telenav, as i do the same thing to it, bc i have a different icon for the 'premium' telenav. again, i don't think it is taking up much room...because its the stripped down version anyway
