Latest 8300 OS: Singapore Telecom 4.2.2.173

    Hi all -

Impatient as I am for a new update to the 8300 OS, I went to RIM's site, and checked the version numbers available for each and every 8300 download. I found that the Singapore Telecom version now stands at:

    Package 4.2.2.314

    Applications 4.2.2.173

    Platform 2.4.0.76

I've downloaded it, but have to get my kids to bed before I can play. Not sure what differences we'll see (if any), but it's something to keep us busy as we wait for 4.3!

Thanks, I'm still pushing around the Optus OS. Perhaps it's time for an upgrade.

    All the ALX's edited.
    Vendor.xml deleted.
Curve plugged in and DM started.
Canceled out of automatic upgrade so I could run AppLoader manually and review install options.

Now down to the last couple of steps:

The progress bar is about 60% of the way across and I'm on the second to last step, "Wait for device initialization".

After that, it will be "Restore device data".

I'm guessing it's about another half hour before I can try this out... so I have to pace around the kitchen a while and look for something to keep me busy while I wait...

Oooohhh! Moving faster than expected...more than halfway through "Restore device data".

Not much more time to pace (drat! still didn't find anything good in the kitchen to entertain me!)

OK - all back. Looks fine ... except that once again my TPC settings have reverted to AT&T / Cingular, so I had to manually set them back to TMo's setting for APN. Aside from that, it all looks fine. So far I don't see anything new...

Thanks for the info. It appears the 8310 and 8320 are running the same platform! w00p! I think a download from AT&T's area is in order!

g'night! my alarm is going to go off all too soon (about 5 hrs! aaak!). Curve is happy again, everything in place, all apps working again (viigo, y!go, google maps, bbmaps, maufait, bbweather, beyond411, infospace findit, opera min, superpages).

One thing I'm curious about (and too tired to consider tonight): has anyone tried creating a folder on the desktop recently? First few times I did this they, and the icons inside, disappeared within a few hours and could only be made visible again by resetting theme defaults. I'd love to be able to create and use icon folders...

    later!

I never ran into this before, and it seems to work just as it should with this OS too.

I did manage to install all four IM clients (AIM, Y! Messenger, ICQ, and G-Talk) on my curve during this upgrade. However, I now need the assistance of a T-Mo customer using the 8320, to make them work. I have G-Talk and Y! Messenger working, but am still working on ICQ and AIM. I know how to do it, just need to borrow a service book or two.

    Any volunteers?

RD - i haven't had ANY issues, from the beginning, creating extra folders (of course, i never use the default themes) but...before the new plazmic i did and i used the orange theme and created folders and never had them disappear...

russ -- did you resend service books? i did that earlier when i7oobie told me he got his, and nothing...no new IM type books

im halfway thur the install process - loading java apps...gonna watch a lil tv while it finishes (not pace the kitchen and find stuff to get me into trouble )
