Issues on flights with using the 8320 as a IPOD?

While on a flight yesterday the attendent made the annoucement to turn off all portable phones for the duration of the flight and mentioned blackberry's in particular. Since I'm thinking about using my curve as a portable music player so I don't have to carry my IPOD with me when I travel this got me thinking. Is it really feasbile to use the curve as a music player on a airplane?

As long as the wireless option is turned off......why should it be a problem. Maybe they are educated enough (I doubt it )to know that you can operate a blackberry without it transmitting and receiving. Good luck...

Tiger is right.... just turn of the wireless radio and the BT connection while on board a plane - that's it.

You can listen to your music, watch a video or play your heart's content of solitaire without transmitting data...

Every time I've heard them mention blackberry devices in this announcement, it's as an exception, that they can be used if the Radio is turned off. That is when other electronic devices are authorzed, they can be used if the radio is off.

one time I got curious and turned on the radio midflight and suddenly the plane crashed and I died a horrible death and was forced to have a closed casket funeral.

and I lived to tell about it.

    true story.

It also depends on the country. I heard that recently in Japan the enacted a law which will not let you use any device that has WIFI even if its turned off. They did this becasue of the nintendo DS and PSP apparently. I know its a bit silly but them the breaks huh?

Back when I had a Cingular non-GSM Blackberry way back when, I'd leave it turned on for flights to the West Coast and had decent signal, even at 30,000 ft. And I survived all of those plane rides with my virginity intact.

They shouldn't have a problem if you tell them that it's in flight mode.
