    i feel stupid! cant get rid of PTT!!!

    Advertisement

    I've been reading the threads on how to remove ptt and add themes which I only want ptt removed, but I can't figure out what the hell to do once I have the os downloaded to my pc. When I go to the platform.alx file I get an error b/c my pc can't find the files origination. Also I can't compile the proper steps to delete ptt with all the other Q&A mixed in. And I can't find or don't know how to get those cizake files. I'm with at&t and I just want ptt out of my curve. Can someone who is smarter than me please help. I know many others have been asking for a while... I'm sorry I'm a little slow. You can email me at mrnrandazzo@yahoo.com

    Once you download the OS and install if you should have a folder path

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8300-v4.2.2.114_P2.4.0.53
    that last part may change.

    Go into that folder and find the platform.alx file.
    Edit that file in notepad
    You're going to scroll down until you see a section that starts like this:

    <fileset pttApp="True" Java="1.0" _vendorID="220">
    <files>
    net_rim_bb_phone_ptt_app.cod
    KnJCDE.cod
    </files>
    </fileset>

    Highlighted red is what is important. You must take out your vendor code. The code for ATT is 102. In the example above has my 102 vendor code removed. You can make yours look just like that if you want.

    Close and save this file.
    Start up desktop manager and plug in your phone. You should get a box that pops up asking to update some files. If it doesn't, start the Application Loader and it should connect and make the change. You're phone should reboot and PTT should be gone.

    yet, a different way to do it is follow the same path that dcooksta gave you above, but instead of altering the platform.alx, open the java folder and delete the ONE PTT cod file...poof, gone...

    run app loader and click next, it will automatically recognize the PTT file gone and remove it...

    On my 8800, I simply hid the icon and assigned the key a different function.

    PTT is still taking up phone memory by not removing it as shown above though.

    Good luck removing the PTT, I agree it takes up memory and is an unwanted app. Cherri's way was definitely the quickest and easiest for me.

    I realize that, just have not had the need to free up the memory. If I ever experiecne memory needs or performance issues due to small amounts of memory then I would delete that as well as vendor themes etc.

    It works for all OS packages that have the PTT module. If you delete it, it can't load.

    Re: i feel stupid! cant get rid of PTT!!!

    Unfortunately no! I have downloaded the OS and removed and redownloaded it serveral times trying to find cherri's file and dacookstak's but for some reason(probably cause I'm a little slow with computers) can't find what I'm supposed to be looking for. I think what I need is for someone who knows what they are doing to walk me through the process "live". Other than that I can't for the life of me get rid of PTT. I did at one point find cherri's ptt.cod file and removed it but it didn't work(ithink cause it was the old OS I downloaded when I started this a week + ago). Like I first said "I FEEL STUPID"! I guess I'm screwed...
