Question Help: Question about Wi-fi data and T-Mobile data,

so i called t-mobile about this.

i am looking to buy this phone. the reason this phone is attractive to me is i work in a hospital with wifi access and i can run medication software on here so i dont have to worry about bad signal and whatnot b/c a lot of signal is blocked out.

i am NOT interested in purchasing data access to t-mobile. instead i just want to use wi-fi data that is provided at my job.

one rep said yes you can. another said no you need full data suite to do so. another rep said you can get just email and then use wifi.

anyone know the real answer to this? the whole reason i was looking at this phone is it runs the software i use, has wi-fi data access.

i am not trying to connect to a t-mobile wireless spot, just one i get for free at work.

if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

yea u can connect to wifi without having the data plan added to ur account, u can even take ur sim card out and still connect to wifi. i work at a hospital too...its great, i can make calls in the basement where no one else gets service.

but let me tell u, that data plan is pretty great, not only cuz t-mobile has the cheapest full data access plan around, but because push email is where its at.

the reason i ask is i was going to do this:

    1.) buy blackberry curve
2.) get the deal of 39.99 for 1000 min w/ unlim night and weekend.
    3.) buy NO DATA access.

i dont do corporate things. im in pharmacy and doing rounds. so i am not looking to have anythign to do with the edge network.

would you mind PMing me? if that is possible? thanks so much for your help.

You don't need corporate access. You can get the personal data plan if you choose to do so.

yes it's viable, you'll just need to get the wifi access codes if there are any and you're good to go. no need to get bis (the blackberry data plan). i do have to say tho, that you're missing out on half the fun of having a blackberry. i also wish my hospital had better wifi access since some of our operating rooms have horrendous cell phone signal

Re: Help: Question about Wi-fi data and T-Mobile data,

I am not sure whether the Blackberry models will work on Wifi only. The Dash does work on wifi only, my second line is a Dash without data and all the services work fine over WiFi only, even bluetooth when connected to my PC. I know the two other handsets that have tmo's hotspot @home don't share the internet connection with the browser
